October weekend at the Grapevine Lake
'When will be the next camping' The question asked many many times after each of our school camping. Sleeping in the tents, siting by the bonfire, singing to the guitar, the kids playing freely till the very late hour - all of it has its unique flavor.
When we are asked the question that means that our community here in DFW looks forward to those kind of events. We have always had a great turn out for the night under the stars. It doesn't matter if people come only for the bonfire, to visit with some friends or they stay for the whole night. We make it possible for them to be together, get out of city, relax nd have some fun time with Polish friends. .
This time was no different. Fall 2022 camping is already in the archive but the memories are still warm and buzzing in heads and hearts. Once again we met in the Meadowmere Park at the Grapevine Lake, TX. The place we've been welcome with smile and almost Polish-sounding 'Dzien Dobry'. Middle of October, fine, almost not oven-hot Texas weather, a great crowd of people mingling around, kids full of energy, tables full of food. It was nice to see our school families, new faces as well as recognize ones not seen for far too long. Guitar, Polish sausage, lost voices - everything was as it was supposed to be.
We'd started with a huge THANK YOU for our teachers. Those ladies come to school with smile and tons of patience each time, they spend countless hours getting ready for the school sessions yet... they still do show up to teach our kids as well as some adults. Without them there would be no school and we wanted them to be recognized the day after Poland celebrated Teachers' Day.
The same weekend we celebrated Polish Bilingual Day. What would be the better way to celebrate our native language than spent hours in Polish community, talking, singing and playing around. It always gives us the boost having next generations joining in singing Polish songs.
We had one more additional attractions. Next to our camp site City of Grapevine run its Pumpkin Patch. Kids of all ages visited in the dark with the flashlights scaring each other and taking funny pictures.
Singing and visiting, catching up lasted almost till dawn. As usual, let's be honest here. Great company, relax and nice October weather, what else could we asked for? Well, maybe for it not to rain at 6am the next day. Especially those who spent the night in the tents. Waking up to the rain dripping from the tent top, it's not to much fun. But we've made it. One more experience to collect 🙂
We are very grateful for all an each of you who showed up an spent some time with us. There were so many of you, having good time and enjoying the company. At last we hope you did. Big thank you for every penny that landed in our fund rising box. We need to start replace out daily school equipment and every extra penny is very important. Thank you for all your help during the camping and support we have experienced through out the years.
Piotrek and Maciek – guys thank you for running the show. Setting up just one night under the starts takes a lot of preparations and coordination. Everything starts long before the first ones arrive to the camp site. And is not done until a few days after the fire had been put out.
Maciek – you, the guitar, your skills and talent which complete the fire and good time. As always, thank you for adding colors and vibes to the event! Everything was top notch. We'll see you again... Piotrek - when?
